1.1 Project Background
Dubbed the "Olympics for Military Personnel", the Military World Games is held every four years. The 7th 2019 Wuhan Military World Games ranked as China’s largest international sports gala after the Beijing Olympics. The judo competition was hosted at Wuhan University of Technology Gymnasium (18,000 ㎡, 5,215 seats) with a distinctive "heaven-round-earth-square" architectural design. The lighting upgrade kicked off in late 2018. Outdated original lights suffered strobing, uneven illuminance and severe light spillage, failing to satisfy HDTV 4K Ultra HD Broadcast standards, which necessitated Indoor Gym LED Lighting renovation. As a professional Sports Lighting Supplier with proprietary optical R&D and industry standard drafting experience, CPS delivered this International Event-Grade Sports Lighting project.
1.2 Project Requirements
This project followed the Class VI HDTV Broadcast Competition Lighting criteria of the JGJ 153 standard (JGJ153-2016), with core requirements as below:
Refine the light environment to eliminate excessive Unified Glare Rating (UGR), poor color rendering and strobing, and achieve High Uniformity Illuminance, Low Glare and High Color Rendering Index, matching delicate judo matches and flicker-free lighting for slow-motion playback;
Meet all photometric metrics including Horizontal Illuminance, Vertical Illuminance and Main Camera Direction Illuminance, compatible with 4K live broadcast, competitive games and spectator viewing;
Adapt to the venue’s circular catwalk layout and adopt professional light distribution for Anti-Light Spill Control to eliminate dark zones.

National specification: Strict compliance with the JGJ 153 standard (JGJ153-2016) Class VI International Broadcast Standard for Sports Venue Lighting;
Specialized calculation: Adopt DIALux Lighting Simulation to compile venue-specific lighting calculation documents tailored to judo sports features, reviewed and filed by expert panels;
Parameter control: Calibrate key metrics: Illuminance Uniformity U1/U2, GR Glare Rating, Color Temperature, CRI Color Rendering Index and SVM Strobe Visibility Metric.

Custom lighting layout: Optimize lamp placement and angles via proprietary TIR Total Internal Reflection Optic Structure to suppress glare and contain stray light; the design passed official expert review;
Streamlined construction: Full venue lighting retrofit completed within 2 months;
Full-spec acceptance: All photometric parameters meet Class VI broadcast standards post-renovation, delivering High CRI Ra≥80 and flicker-free performance ideal for judo HD broadcasting, earning unanimous recognition from the client and venue management.
